Liverpool to Bristol Temple Meads

Hi Virgin + Transpennine are quoting £54ish for an Anytime ticket. Any cheaper ways to get there? Coach is a 5/6 hour journey so that's a no-no. Ta all.

before 16:30, a London Midland only super-off-peak return to Rugby
£14 (change at New St) - or £9-£14 advance to Birmingham
single to Cheltenham Spa £18; £13.50 advance are available
single to Bristol £7.30

alternatively go From Birmingham to Worcester £6.40, Worcester to Bristol £10.50 saving £8.40 but at least an hour slower.

LM and XC do not combine well on Advance tickets, for some reason.
