A very quick one here for the experts; as usual the National Rail site is not helpful. I am travelling from London to Burton-on-Trent tomorrow and require a simple walk-up off-peak return. Can I travel out via St Pancras and Derby and return via Tamworth and Euston or vice versa? Many thanks.

It would appear that both Derby and Tamworth are Routeing Points for Burton-on-Trent and they both pass the fare-check rule. So to answer your question: yes, as long as you get the Route Any Permitted Off-Peak Return @ £59.20 or Anytime Return @ £165.

Furthermore, you can even travel via Nottingham as it also appears to pass the fare-check rule.

Excellent! As a committed 'any permitted' traveller that's exactly what I'll be acquiring. Many thanks.
