I have took advantage of the east coast offer £10 anywhere and purchased a ticket from kings cross to Edinburgh. Will this be valid to Haymarket or only Wayverley, I thought I had put Haymarket in the destination but my ticket just says Edinburgh, many thanks in advance.

I might be wrong here but, I don't think it's valid.

There isn't an Edinburgh stations ticketing group, tickets are printed with either Haymarket or Edinburgh. Unlike tickets to Glasgow, which are printed Glasgow Cen/QST and are valid at either station.

However, in my experience the barriers at Waverly accept tickets to Haymarket and barriers at Haymarket accept tickets to Edinburgh. The barriers also swallow these tickets, which they really shouldn't as the passenger might only be breaking their journey at Haymarket before travelling onto Waverly later, however unlikely it might be. (if travelling from the North/West)

If this is the offer I am thinking of, they will be Advance tickets. If so, they are subject to the T&Cs of the tickets, one of which is that finishing short is not permitted.

How is finishing short relevant when Haymarket is after Waverley when travelling from Kings Cross.

It's not. We should just assume that Crossover was confused when posting that.

I must say that I have occasionally left an East Coast train at Haymarket when travelling on a ticket to Edinburgh (and more often, vice versa) but I wouldn't take my personal experience as an assurance of permission.

I assume your ticket will be "east coast only" if so & your train from London terminates at Edinburgh then the validity will end there. If you are on one of the through services to Aberdeen/Inverness/Glasgow that normally stop at Haymarket then you can remain on the train and alight there. It will be unlikely that you will be challenged at the barrier as in practice tickets to either Edinburgh or Haymarket are accepted at either station. Please note that if you wish to use a ScotRail train from Edinburgh to Haymarket then you will require a separate ticket for this.

The easiest solution would be to buy an Edinburgh - Haymarket Single from the guard on the train if and when you have decided that you indeed wish to travel to Haymarket.

The guard could give you permission to continue to Haymarket (for free) if your train is one of the handful each day that continues beyond Edinburgh to Glasgow/Aberdeen/Inverness but I would not fancy getting in an argument with a member of ScotRail staff at the barriered Haymarket for the sake of a pound or so.

No, Edinburgh is Edinburgh Waverley and Haymarket is Haymarket. There is no destination that officially includes both (and you cannot get "Edinburgh Waverley" printed on a ticket). However, I understand the practice on the ground is to treat the two stations interchangeably.
