How would I get to Hanover if travelling via Eurostar?
I thought changing at Cologne but the shirt bit of investigation I found had trains that would take 2 hour or so. For that time line, I'll probably fly.

Of course you cannot beat London to Hannover by plane timewise. London to Cologne you can so in a reasonable schedule, but if you enjoy train travel, 7-8 hours sounds great. So assuming your motivation for choosing the train is not time and price, what is it?
An alternative route could be via Amsterdam, but thats not much faster and I am not sure about ticketing.

London St. Pancras International 10:58 - Bruxelles-Midi 14:05
Bruxelles Midi 14:25 - Köln Hbf 16:15
Köln Hbf 16:48 - Hannover Hbf 19:28

I see a price of 129,90 euro one way.

Going via Amsterdam Centraal takes you 11 and 1/2 hours.

Hmm.
Visiting family so would prefer not to spend all day travelling. I think BHX to Hannover is going to be the one... 2 hours, £230 odd return.

Just wanted to try and involve some train travel somewhere.
Tried looking at flights to other airports in Germany but without travelling from Manchester (quite far) or Glasgow (even further away!), it can't be done.

If I could fly somewhere, then have a couple hours on the train, that would be great but I'd rather not pay extra/have a huge increase in journey time when I can just fly direct.

I guess it means I have to go back at some point in the future though...

Eurowings fly from Birmingham to Hamburg which is only 75-90 mins train ride from Hannover. No clue on prices or times though.

Not familiar with flights from your area, but Hamburg is the nearest by journey time, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Köln and Frankfurt all have good services to and from Hannover. All are, of course, rail connected.

Memory says the Flybe from BHX arrives quite late evening (unless it's cancelled), which may be a factor in your choice.
