Would the shortest gap be something like Garforth to East Garforth at, what I do believe to be, less than a mile?

Something like that, or Stourbridge Tow/Junction. Less than a minute end to end.

Exactly, so while thinking of long distance services, I wondered what the biggest gap was :) Thanks for the replies guys :)

You're conflating the two Caley Sleepers there.

The Highland stops at Crewe and Preston.

The Lowland stops at Watford, Carlisle and Carstairs.

You're quite right.

Still nowhere near the "longest gap"!

Godley to Godley East really was a short distance (about 1/4 mile). Hadn't realised they'd finally closed Godley East until I just checked.

According to my tables Gonesse is at "0" on LGV Nord. Haute Picardie station is at 111km. Lille is at 204km so it is very close but by these tables it is just slightly farther between Gonesse and Picardie. However taking a standing start from Lille into account and negotiation of the triangle just south at 230km/h it may take slightly longer to get to Picardie from Lille than fromthe 200km/h line speed at Gonesse. So yes it might "feel" longer by a few minutes.

I think that Lille measurement is actually made from the tip of the triangular junction because I know it's 202km ( I read the km posts when I travel! ) where the LGV Nord and LGV Belge separate and it's certainly a lot more than 2km from the junction to the station.

Next time I travel I'll have a look at the km posts immediately below Lille station, but that might be a while as I have no Paris trips currently booked.
