CORE says:
London - York = 188.40
London - Preston = 233.42
Which because London - glasgow wcml is 401 IIRC
Makes preston - glasgow 168

I'm confused about how CORE gives London to Preston as 233.42 miles, as I know for a fact the direct route via Tamworth, Stafford, Crewe, Wigan etc is 209.01 miles.

Maybe the 233.42 mile option is via a few alternative routes, e.g. Manchester?

For the record, Preston to Glasgow Central is 192.31 miles. ;)

(I've used this mileage website- http://www.mscs.dal.ca/~butler/miles1.lst)
