The lift on Platform 2/3 at Altrincham Interchange has been out of order since 7 October 2019. The lifts were only installed during the rebuilding of the Altrincham Interchange in 2014. I am told that the lifts are the responsibility of TfGM.

Passengers arriving at Platform 2 from Chester, can access platform 4 and the station car park, by going round the end of Metrolink platforms 1 and 2, to use the lift on platform 1, cross the bridge and then use the lift onto Platform 4.

As we have passed 12 months out of use, is this the longest period for repairs waiting to be completed?
Anyone know of a longer period out of use??

On the London Underground, Mornington Crescent was "temporarily closed for refurbishment" for most of the 1990s (wiki says October '92 to April '98) because of problems with its lifts.

The "Bomb Gap" at King's Cross from WWII. Finally repaired in the 2012 upgrade.

Or the "temporary" flyover at St Johns.

The Traincrew building at Exeter was closed pending refurbishment in 1992 and a large "temporary" portacabin was provided. This has been temporary for 28 years. The new facilities will apparently be available with the new depot in December 2020! The old building never was refurbished and has been allowed to become derelict.

That's a shame to hear that it's become derelict and in disrepair!

My nomination would have to be the diamond crossover + associated pointwork at Basingstoke. It's always suffered with issues since it's replacement in 2007 and is a repeat offender for having "temporary" speed restrictions applied, removed, then re-applied. The latest issue is with the pointwork from Platform 2 to 1 and so everything is now sent through Platform 2 and forced to cross over at the western end of the station. The long proposed new junction / flyover / dive under can't come soon enough!

That said, I believe the bridge at Christchurch has had a similar on / off arrangement with semi permanent TSRs for a fair number of years too. Fortunately, one good example of a piece of out of use infrastructure that has been repaired is Paddington's Span 4.
