Indeed - once you’re out of Gosforth, it’s pretty much rural.

The 21/X21 is built up Newcastle to Chester le Street but then a big gap to Framwellgate Moor/Pity Me

Go North East again, would the 50 from Durham to South Shields (Marsden Bay), or the 56 Newcastle to Sunderland?

In the past Hull had the 23/24 "Outer Circle" which IIRC took around 90 minutes for a trip, but I can't for the life of me find my copy of the timetable to confirm the exact time.

50 is the same as 21 - big gap between Durham and Chester le Street. 56 is a decent shout though

they are a trek thats for sure! I'm guessing that neither the X1/X10 GNE fall into this either and be gaps too? (used those as well X1/X10 as far as Dalton Park), one final suggestion is the 47 to Consett?

Both the 56 and 47 aren’t particularly long, they are about 1 hour 15 mins

I was going to suggest one more for the North East I have used at that was the Stagecoach 22 Throckley-Battle Hill (Cobalt)

I didn't think the 56 was that long! (I knew it was long but timing wise didn't think it was that!), I agree on the 47 and that timing though, credit due on the 47 is another you see probably more hills than villages?

Lothian buses: speaking of route as in past than is now… 22 Gyle Centre to Ocean Terminal? (haven’t used Lothian in ages but aware route now terminates city centre?)
The 36 Gyle Centre-Ocean Terminal (using timetable on website as guidance here)

29 Silverknowes - Gorebridge 1hr 35.

Oddly enough I was on their website recently just browsing the routes and times lol

Would the Lothian counterparts count? East Coast Buses 106/7 and 113? (never used them mind... but the timetables seem to indicate its an hour and a bit..)

Those are routes out into the East Lothian countryside. I would argue that the 3 and 29 do not meet the criteria either as they briefly leave the urban area. Seton Sands might qualify on the other hand.

Without leaving the city evening peak 16s are allowed 100 minutes Torphin-Silverknowes - five miles as the crow flies, about 13 miles by bus.
