Hello everyone.

First wanted to introduce myself and ask those in the know for a bit of advice. Im currently an Air Traffic Controller in the Royal Air Force but looking for a change in career. Getting a bit fed up with with all the policies and what is expected of us these days.

Interested in becoming a Train Driver but wondering if anyone one knows when there might be a recruitment push for trainee drivers in the Oxon / Bucks or local area?

Any advice or information much appreciated.

Rob

Might want to rethink that through if that isn't something you like!

I'm sure it can't be as bad as what I'm already dealing with haha We're currently expected to do so many additional duties with fewer people which had taken its toll on me.

Unfortunately missed that one. They've closed applications early.

Hmmm.

20 Rule Book modules
2 Handbooks
Briefing Document
TOC specific handbook
Won/Pon
Sectional Appendix
Route Book
Traction manuals x3

DOO policy
Professional Driving Policy
Autumn Adhesion Policy

Drivers T&C
Employee T&C

Mobile device policy
Social media policy...
Drugs and Alcohol policy
Attendance at Work policy
ATOC / staff travel policy

Not sure I can squish any more in my brain. One day its all going to explode out my ear.

I think every job is like that now. I used to be a teacher. Go on any school website and look at how many policies each school has. It's an Ofsted requirement they're available on the website too. Which is a policy in itself!

I've recently been doing a bit of online shopping delivery before I start my new job. Even that has many different policies. I suppose what is being got at here is the consistency. If policies are constantly changing (school ones are frequently), it can make a job harder. However, it's much easier if you can learn them and then be left to put them into practise confident that you're doing the right thing and they don't change too much!

Rob, You think ATC is bad, jut wait, additional duties and lack of manpower is worse, if anything, in civvie street as there is more budgetary pressure than in the military.

If policies and extra pressure are not your thing ASDA are always recruiting! ;)

It really is no different on the other side of the fence, if anything it is much worse.
