...is the AIT even still used?
Last I heard was that the project had been abandoned.

Indeed, despite being lengthened by two additional cars early in the project it has never been used for its intended purpose.Last I heard was that the project had been abandoned.

If they are paying for them and the owners are happy to sell why not? I suspect that their is probably some agreement to refurbish and replace the parts anyway.I think it’s quite wrong that LUL are taking parts from a train that they no longer own for their own fossilized TRT, wasn’t the much newer Asset Inspection Train meant to replace the TRT and is the AIT even still used? I havent seen it around in ages, they should use it more as there are much more 72TS spare parts and 60TS parts floating about.

Correct. There is an agreement in place that is beneficial to Cravens Heritage Trains whilst enabling a faster turnaround for an important part of LU's track inspection strategy. No parts have been 'sold' and essentially it is no different to how other overhauls happen - working parts are swapped in for old, which in turn are refurbished and then swapped back into the next unit. The net result will be that the Cravens unit ends up with a large amount of mechanical work done at a fraction of the cost.
What Stock are you referring ?Whilst stored at Ruislip depot. 3 of the 4 cars have been damaged by vandals
What Stock are you referring ?
The Aldwych 72TS 3229. Cars 4229/4329/3329 have been significantly hit by graffiti.
What is your source for this? I am reliably informed that the unit is back in Aldwych and has not been to Ruislip.
Either way, it’s irrelevant because it isn’t preserved.
Put your hand in your pocket and make LUL an offer then...?
It isn’t preserved. We saw this with the A stock and it’s like going round in circles.
Shame none of them weren't would have been nice to have each of the 3 surface stock trains in preservation for railtours but I suppose it would have been deemed to expensiveATC isn't an issue for vehicles if you can find the heart to modify them by say, adding a 2nd cab wall to block up the 1st seatbays.
A Stock, C Stock and D Stock COULD all be fitted with "ATC" signalling for manual driving. And indeed a 1960TS is fitted for Central Line ATP, the D78 RAT is fitted for (or I hope it is by now, it should have been done this year) CBTC. Not to mention numerous Battery Locomotives, some with all three dominant signalling systems on LU fitted. (CL ATP, Thales S40 and Thales S60)
could always do what has been done with at least one Paris metro train - fit diesel power pack and use on a railway that is not part of the metro network
You mean Vivarail?
