Seems the removal of the Bus Lane from the M4 Eastbound between junctions 3 and 2 is going about as well as more enlightened commentators were predicting. That is to say, the removal is precipitating worse delays. There's a superb explanation linked from the article that I'll link to as well that explains why the bus lane reduced congestion- essentially on that stretch not having the lane available to normal traffic is better than having the lane, as it reduces merging. it was left open to buses, coaches, taxis etc as that was more acceptable than just hatching it out.

Ideologicl crusades: oft misguided, oft doomed to worse than failure.

And of course they're putting it back in as an Olympic lane in less than 2 years' time.

Along with all the others that will be popping up for a month or so - at least most people realise the rationale behind bus lanes even if they don't like them in practice.

Absolutely, it's a joke, and the cbrd website explains it all well why the M4 bus lane helped to reduce congestion and not increase it!
