The magnetic strip can be compromised by anything which has magnetic fields. This would include mobile phones

It's the magnets in the speakers that can wipe it.
Or a phone case with a magnetic latch is even better at it.

NFC enabled phones can cause them problems.

Yes I regularly had to get my season ticket replaced if I forgot and put it in the same pocket as my phone
