Sorry if this has been asked before but I'm interested in compiling a list of UK NR-maintained (ie not private railways) stations which don't have road access. ie you can only walk (or cycle or boat....) to them if you don't go by train.

I already know about:

Altnabreac
Berney Arms
Corrour
Dovey Junction

Any others people know about?

That makes no sense when every other station with a welsh name has it's correct welsh spelling :-?

I know of a few rural stations with road access, but no parking near by. Which negates the point of road access IMO. That's why I mentioned it.

But people will still need a road to arrive by bus or taxi or to be dropped off by someone.

I think Middlewood on the Manchester to Buxton line only has access from the Middlewood way and another path. I don't know what Middlewood is in Welsh I'm afraid<D

Is the pier road only for cars going onto the ferry? If so, does that count? Joking, actually just curious more than anything, never been there, am looking at google earth.

The ferry from Ryde Pier is passenger only to Portsmouth

thats all I've seen of it myself, but that car park looks like it can be used for the station aswell (not that you would want to drive to the end of a pier to get a train when there is another station at the other end of it)

Thanks for suggestions so far. Checking with Google Earth, Ryde Pier Head seems to have cars all around it. Middlewood seems to have a main road running right past it. But Smallbrook Jn on the IOW seems a certain candidate for inclusion. So the list is now:

Altnabreac
Berney Arms
Corrour
Dyfi/Dovey Jn
Smallbrook Jn

Ryde Pier can be driven on to and right to the end. This enables passengers to get on the ferry without using the train. As is well-known in years past there was a shuttle that ran on the pier and used the now-disused platform at Esplanade.

May I suggest Longcross as well, as it has no vehicular access?

coombe junction halt i believe is a good 1/2 mile from road, maybe wrong however that was just looking at google maps, but i think there is possible that the station is marked in the wrong place!

It's not as far as that, 'cos I checked it out while on holiday a few years ago while the wife was shopping in Liskeard. The road was some distance away, and 'road' may be too euphemistic a term, but it was a couple of hundred yards at most.

Thanks again for all the suggestions so far. I stand corrected on Middlewood. It may qualify. Originally a search on Google Earth took me to "Middlewood Station" which in fact was a tram stop somewhere on the outskirts of Sheffield. The Middlewood on the Buxton line for sure seems only to have path access though there's what looks like a caravan or lorry park quite close by. I'll check out the other suggestions and share my final list when it's done. Appreciate all the contributions. Off to investigate IBM, MUFC and Longcross now.

Can anyone add info on Lympstone Commando? Looks like close vehicle access - but is that within an MOD site maybe? British Steel Redcar will certainly go into the list.

Middlewood station on the Buxton to Manchester line is shown in this program: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROQ_pbHYftg (fast forward to 04:44, the part prior to that isn't suitable for children.)

That is actually filmed at Entwistle station in Lancashire and not Middlewood, despite the signage. I can confirm there is no road access to the real Middlewood station though, it originally served as an interchange station with both high and low level platforms (similar to Tamworth). The high level platforms were on what is now the Middlewood Way where the railway continued from the present terminus at Rose Hill Marple through to Macclesfield.

Beaulieu rd has only a private car park and caters for walkers and cyclists. It's in the middle of nowhere so who would drive to it
