Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone had anymore information on the Railzone & Metrolink Zone return tickets. I am looking to travel from Levenshulme to Etihad Campus on Saturday and then returning later on and it seems that going via tram and train is the best option to do this. Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase these tickets in advance, if not will I be able to purchase it from the ticket machine at Levenshulme and is their a potentially better ticket option?

The off-peak adult return is £5.00 and I presume railcard discount is not available for this route.

The through fare needed will be Levenshulme to Metrolink Zones 1+2. Off Peak Day Return is £5.00. No railcard discount available. See link below.

Not 100% sure if available from a Northern TVM or online if the ticket office at Levenshulme is shut, although the ticket office there should be open on a Saturday in the early afternoon.

It sounds like you may be heading to the City game? If you can, I would advise walking to and from Piccadilly. It's about a mile alongside the canal - just follow the crowds.

The trams get super crush-loaded. Getting out to the ground is a squeeze with little chance of a seat, even if you need one, unless you head off very early. After the game, unless you leave early, the queues will be huge and crush-loaded again. Walking into town after watching a full game is normally quicker and nicer than waiting on a tram.

I actually work for City so the teams tend to be a lot quieter when I’m travelling to and from the ground.

Yeah this is my main concern. Should be all good for this Saturday however in future could pose an issue. Is it possible to purchase this kind of ticket on the train or would this count as boarding without a valid ticket given their would still be a ticket machine and whatnot at the station?

Not a bad shout that to potentially save 30p, but how does the OP purchase the Zone 2 Metrolink ticket without alighting at New Islington tram stop?

As I mentioned, and as AFAIK should be able to purchase from the ticket machine on the tram platform at Piccadilly?

Just checked at my local zone 3+4 Metrolink station, and it doesn't seem to be possible to buy tram tickets from there for other zones, e.g. Zone 1 only or Zone 2 only.

You can select Metrolink zones as destinations on the Northern TVMs. If you try entering a specific stop it doesn't recognise it, so it only works if you know what zone the stop you want is in.

The tickets to specific stations were retired a long time ago now!

Google maps is showing roughly 1h 20m (from train station to tram stop) compared to about half an hour by train+tram.
Yes, but you’d probably budget for 1 hour by train+tram to cover disruption etc., well I would, hence why I’d probably walk instead. Maybe weather dependent of course.

Could you explain what that tweet is referring to? Maybe post the whole thread?
Clicking on that link just gives me: "Hi there, yes that's correct. Thanks" - without saying what "that" is or quoting the question - it's presumably the answer to a private conversation.
