So does anyone understand how the bus stop/lane changes on the Oxford Road corridor are actually supposed to improve services?

They appear to have stripped away most of the bus lanes and installed bus stops which are probably worse than the old ones - all for the benefit of a cycle lane, which seems rather pointless considering the rather low cycle traffic on the corridor.

Anyone understand what is going on?
I live in a hall near the Whitworth Art Gallery and the stuff near there is especially perplexing.

Most of Oxford Road between Whitworth Park and the city centre is being converted to a bus only route - so bus lanes won't really be needed.
