Does anyone know what normally works these services, particularly the 17:31 to Blackpool North from Manchester Piccadilly on a Saturday please? Hoping to ride on it and would love to try out a pacer!

Should be a 319? Now that Bolton and Blackpool have been electrified

Airport originators (via Chat Moss->Wigan) are 319

Via Bolton->Chorley is mix of 319 and 156 otherwise. 150 if you're unlucky; no chance of a Pacer in my experience.

(Edit to add clarity for Wigan routings)

The xx31 services are a mix of 319 and 150/156 worked.

If you particularly want a Pacer, your best bet is to travel on a train from Manchester Victoria to Wigan Wallgate (there are four an hour, and you won't wait more than an hour for a Pacer to turn up on one I'm sure) where you can then cross the road and jump on a 319 to Blackpool from Wigan NW.

Alternatively, you could try one of the Manchester to Wigan via Bolton services (xx18 from Piccadilly or xx50 from Victoria) which are *sometimes* 142 worked. Then you could change onto the Blackpool-bound 319 at Bolton.

Cheers for everyone's help, ended up by chance more than anything having 142053 coupled to a 150 working a Preston-Blackpool North train. Tell you what, 20 minutes of a pacer at 75mph is enough to put me off ever travelling on one again. The amount of rattles, jerks and non working heating wasn't great at all!
