Alright guys, just wondering if you could lend a helping hand. Only really knowing the Merseyside area, I'm a bit stumped as to what the best way to do the journey is.

On the 4th Dec, will be doing Liverpool - Chester - Southport, so obviously a saveaway is probably the best bet, but couple of mates are coming from Manchester either meeting us at Liverpool or Chester, and then returning from Southport to Manchester on the 5th.

It's the to and from Manchester part (Arriving at Liverpool/Chester, Departing from Southport) that I have no idea with. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Outward the best way would be to get a Manchester-Liverpool advance on EMT/TPE and then a Merseyside ticket between Liverpool and Southport.

Return would probably be a Southport-Manchester single.

Cheers for that. For some reason had it in my head to only check returns . Couple of singles work out perfectly for Manchester - Liverpool and Southport - Manchester. TPE student offer, Manchester - Liverpool £2.00, can't complain at all!

Splitting at Wigan on the return would probably reduce the fare because PTE fares apply from there into Manchester. I reduced a fare by almost half from Wigan to Bradford by splitting at Littleborough and Walsden, taking advantage of both GM and WYPTE fares.

Is the Saveaway valid to Meols Cop? It's inside the Merseyside boundary. Singles Meols Cop > Wigan and Wigan > Manchester would do rightly in that case.

On Sundays there is an odd Southport to Chester service via Manchester.
I don't know of any reason you can't get off at Manchester.

I don't think you can break your journey doing that unless Southport to Chester via Manchester is a permitted route under normal conditions.
