I've just been looking at journeys I am likely to make this year, and how much prices have changed with the March increase. What I am perplexed by is this journey suggested by trainline. Starting at Newcastle, going to Manors, and getting on a train that goes back to Newcastle again, but with the Newcastle stop not shown on it. Picked a random day, and all the other trains I can see are shown correctly starting journey at Newcastle, and heading in Carlisle direction.

Given it looks impossible that NT5148 won't stop at Newcastle, is it some sort of input error in the timetable?

The 18.56 Morpeth to Carlisle does not call at Newcastle according to the timetable data:

I expect it does in reality, and that this is a data error. Unless there is engineering work?

This will be a data error and the train will call at Newcastle.

Hopefully nobody follows the journey suggested and is unfortunate enough to end up at Manors...

Do two separate train sets join at Newcastle, and if so, does that have anything to do with it?

In theory - though the only time it's happened in the past week is last Friday. Attachments/detachments used to be almost unheard of in the North East and are still fairly uncommon but we have a smattering of four-car workings these days.

This error actually applies for the entire timetable period and runs into the next one as well.

Looks like someone has accidentally surpressed the passenger call at Newcastle in the process of adding the -U (attaches coaches) activity code.

There's no way the train won't stop, and there's every chance it will be a crew change anyway.

Found this on realtime trains and brtimes
Its about the 1856 Morpeth Departure. Most likley a data error but it looks like it has been fixed now.

However on apple maps it is not showing as stopping at Newcastle Central

The Apple Maps extract shows the Tyne Valley stations served by ScotRail, not Northern. Evidently they don't update their data that often either (given that Newcastle is still missing).

Noticed that too. Lots of false things with the apple maps one.

As for Manors, like I say it is probally a data error.

Normally the 1923 is a safe bet for a 4 car Newcastle - Carlisle. One unit is the through Morpeth - Carlisle. the other unit is the one that detaches from the Whitby - Hexham (itself a 4 car on the Whitby - Newcastle bit) which gets into Newcastle at about 1855. Last week saw a mixture of staff shortage, unit shortage and strike so not totally representative. Usually needs both sets as 1 come straight back as a Carlisle - Hartlepool and the second stays at Carlisle overnight for an early morning Carlisle - Nunthorpe

Not sure if its still the case but recently there was a Sunday Middlesbrough to Carlisle which the systems had Newcastle as an unadvertised stop leading to passengers not believing staff and getting the Metrocentre terminator before it and changing there
