You clearly done a lot of work, and it looks great, but you might want to consider doing it in a GIS package. QGIS (https://www.qgis.org/en/site/) is free/open source and compatible with the various OS OpenData data sets (https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/opendatadownload/products.html). That way you’d keep it geographically accurate-QGIS lets you export data as various raw GIS data formats and other formats (eg pdf/svg) so you could finish it in an illustration package then.
Thanks, I will have a look at that.

Unfortunately I haven't had time to do any more work on the map so far, but maybe I will be able to do some more over the summer.

I hope this is relevant for someone though it doesn’t give track detail.
On an iPhone in Apple Maps you can set the map settings to Transport and it gives a strong outline of all UK railway lines.

Many thanks...I still can't find the link on the original posto_O

If you look at this bit of the OP carefully...

...you will hopefully see that the word "here" is coloured blue, indicating that the word itself is the link. So if you click the word "here" it takes you to the French map.

I know this is six months late, but thought it might be handy for future reference; it's not uncommon for people (including myself) to bury links under words, especially the word "here". :)
