Hi all,
I’m literally brand new to this forum as a member, been lurking on here for a couple of months now and I may not have got the most accurate title so bare with me.
I’ve been thinking the past couple of months now that the step up to train driving is the most logical progression from where I am now driving Trams. I’ve driven everything, experiences 90% of all scenarios and am more than competent I’d say in my role now.
My only worry is that a 3/4 years back before I started on the trams I was diagnosed with a blockage which having been rectified left me with a reduced nerve capacity in my left hand to where it’s difficult to straighten my fingers full stretch and tightly gripping onto heavy objects or opening tough containers using solely that hand without help from the other or some form of grip aid (towels, paper, tshirt whichever works).
Now I’ve not found this a problem driving trams or anything the role entails such as swinging points etc. But my only worry is that heavy rail controls are a lot different than what I’m used to (having never experienced them) so may not be ideal for me to move up if I physically can’t do it (I’m a worrier and rationally think everything through to the enth degree)
Sorry for this rambling but my worry is:
Am I physically not capable of moving up to how heavy rail controls are and operate or being as I drive trams without any bother would I be okay?
Thought I’d finally ask as I’ve seen trainee roles come and go and have pondered this question for a while.
If I’m physically not capable of what heavy rail has to offer then I’ll concede but seeing them everyday, day in day out I’m getting to the point where I feel I’m missing out if I don’t apply
