777013 and 777049 are out and about today
Thanks just had a ride on them, they've been behaving themselves today, probably because not so many passengers, noticed at Kirkby there were some Network Rail staff on the other side of the barrier working on the track, no doubt to prepare for the extension.

With 777002 and 777006 delivered to Kirkdale from Crewe CS earlier, this means no Class 777's stored at that location.

Kirkdale C.S. = 001 to 010 inclusive, 012, 013, 014, 015, 016, 018, 049, 140 and 142.
WOJn MSC. = 144 and 146.

Riding the new trains today, first trip to Kirkby is on the old train 09:50 Central to Kirkby and coming back the new one, 10:28 Kirkby to Central interesting to compare directly one straight after the other.

Airline and fixed seats seemed to have become more comfortable maybe due to passengers sitting on it constantly HOWEVER the tip up seats haven't quite softened enough, could it be the angle of the tip up seats are set at when it's down putting pressure on the tailbone ?

Back to reality today, and during the quiet early morning period. Looks like the 0605 Central - Kirkby gave up the ghost at Sandhills, which caused the following set to miss a return journey as well. The 0828 Kirkby - Central, one of the line's busiest journeys, also turned back short at Sandhills after the set had consistently run late.

They are still nowhere near ready to be introduced to the Ormskirk line, one of the busiest branches on the network.

Kirkby services seem to be running ok today, 777008, 777009 and 777013 are out as of 1345.
1513 Kirkby - LVC terminated at Sandhills.
1535 LVC-Kirkby starting at Sandhills.
1520 LVC-Kirkby cancelled.

"Due to a train fault"

Edit - 777009 apparently

Not sure if the 777s have yet completed a full day of 3 units on the Kirkby line without at least one failing.

The thread is obviously far too long to go through page by page, but what is the difference between the two sub-classes? (777/0 and 777/1?)

777/1 has batteries fitted to operate away from third rail, the eventual long term plan is to operate from Kirkby to Wigan and Bidston to Wrexham, this means you won't have to install third rail extensions as ORR is not keen on any third rail extensions on safety grounds, they "may" be installed at Wigan and Wrexham and/or intermediate stations for charging and keeping the battery topped up.

Problems again this evening
  • 2013 Kirkby to Central has been cancelled
  • 2035 Central to Kirkby has been cancelled
Just listing every time one breaks down will not help but it must be demoralising for the staff .

Think they may have to put a halt on sending more 507/508's to Simm's at this rate.

What are the issues causing cancellations ?

I was in Liverpool today but didn't have time to take a look at how it's running.

I believe it was mentioned no more were going until after Aintree races so still a few weeks to iron out some more issues. Does seems to be getting gradually better though still far from ideal

Is there a renewed date for which Merseyrail will attempt to send 777s in service to Ormskirk? I'm well aware they've got issues running on Kirkby which is why it's been delayed, but of course they were supposed to debut this month.

Will be a while yet I think, it wouldn't do to have a train full of race goers trapped in a broken down 777 or worse an 8 car 777, it would make the national news for the wrong reasons.
