777024 was out on the Ormskirk line today. Is this its first time in service?
At Birkenhead Park I saw 777007 on I think West Kirby service.
At New Brighton 777018 was awaiting departure with the 1353 to Liverpool Central.

777018 suffered a door issue yesterday morning described as "door come off runners"

The guard I loosely know on my train home said we may see passenger 777s on the Southport line within and I quote ‘Days rather than Weeks’

Hope the Southport line users are ready to enjoy all the delays and cancellations all the other lines have been experiencing...

Surely it would have made sense to get the 777s capable of running in 8 car before sticking them on the busiest line?

Hopefully they'll have the sense to put the 777s on the diagrams that remain as single sets all day.

Todays 1331 6Q79 Wembley to Walton Old Jct seems to be running with just one unit, 777022, the power cars are scheduled to run back to Tyseley tomorrow so the other two units will be enjoying a further stay at Wembley

777049 is reported in this string as being initially delivered to Warrington 16.03.22 and then being moved to Crewe 17.03.22: But when was it delivered to Kinkdale and when was it renumbered 777149 ? There is a video on u-tube of it on test at KInkdale with quoted date of 04.12.22 and apparently still numbered 777049. Can anyone clarify ?

"Kinkdale" above should of course read Kirkdale - auto spelling or a slip of the finger !!

I'm reluctant to praise a 777, but on Tuesday, I actually found one which didn't leave my buttocks feeling numb after 45 minutes. 777036 is the one to look out for.

I don't believe it has ever been renumbered?

The /1 trains are the battery variant, and they are 140, 142, 144, 146, 148, 150 and 152.

It has never been 777149.
My records have it having moved from Crewe to Kirkdale by 30/03/22 but I don't have the precise date of the move

Units with even numbers were built in Switzerland, odd numbers were built in Poland. Only the Swiss factory builds the battery units, hence them all being evens.

When 049 arrived I definitely saw it in print as 149. Whether it ever carried this number I don't know.

Interesting as it is one of the newer sets.

An iffy day yesterday (Friday 8th Dec) as two units went pop on the Ormskirk line and one on Headbolt Lane/Kirkby line. I was onboard the 1136 from West Kirby and that departed 10 mins late due to a fault on 777019.

Ref Posts 6047 & 6052: Thank you for your replies and additional information: I have found a clear photo on flickr of 777049 (showing the unit number) taken at Kirkdale with a quoted date of 04.04.22, so it appears to have arrived there rather earlier than suspected: See:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/45566...nNPu52-r5fB5D-2nc6qGB-2ofo9oe-2oeHtnW-2oeSud4

I think there is confusion regarding the traction battery issue: Clearly those 777/1s quoted above (Post 6051) have main line traction batteries but it appears that ALL the 777/0s have smaller battery packs to enable them to move short distances mainly within depots when no 3rd rail supply is avaliable.

Yep all 777/0s have battery packs to allow the train to move a very small distance, basically to allow it to enter/leave maintenance sheds

Apologies, my post (now corrected)
It has never been 777149.

originally read 30/03/23 but was supposed to be 30/03/22 as it now states

Re: 777049. It was brought up from Dollands Moor to Arpley Sidings on 16 March 2022 (with 013 & 015), then it was taken to Crewe CS the following day (and that is confirmed, as I do have an image of the movement). On 30 March 2022, it was then along with 777010 transported to Kirkdale Depot. From information received, No 777049 did have batteries fitted initially for testing purposes on the MR system but however, this is not 100% though. Certainly No 777049 had the honour of being the first Class 777 into public service on 23 January 2023.

Thank you 8A for this confirmation: I too have read somewhere that 777049 was traction battery fitted - which is probably the reason for my confusion and expectation that it should be 777149. Perhaps the main line traction batteries were only fitted for a trial and to prove that it was possible to retrofit such things - I wonder if this is why it was moved to Crewe, was the work done there ? However, it appears that the unit is now back to standard /0 format and presumably has been ever since it entered passenger service ?
