Merseyrail Class 777 introduction updates

I idly wondered if TfW should acquire some 777s with longer-range batteries for Wrexham - Bidston and extend the service to Birkenhead North, where there is a spare platform and they could recharge off the live rail. A few 507s soldier on between Hunts Cross and Southport.
Already been proposed for 777/1s to go to Wrexham before the first one was even on the UK shores! Speculation is over them (eventually) going to Wrexham and Manchester ways (Either Wigan or Manchester itself).

Do we have any sort of "reasonably confirmed" timeline on doubled-up working returning on the Ormskirk and Southport lines? I know we've had 010 and 026 perma-joined on the Ormskirk line, but there were usually two or three diagrams doubled-up in the "old" timetable for evening peak that have yet to make an appearance, with units being sent ECS from Kirkdale to join up at Ormskirk.

Those days have pretty much gone im afraid, there's a pretty major timetable change coming up which will see any 8 cars purely running between Southport and Liverpool

One route that the Mayor is planning at some point is Ellesmere Port to Helsby with a possible extension to Warrington Bank Quay. If so the Mayors new station at Daresbury would be connected to the LCR Region.

That's very disappointing to read.
Agreed there, especially as 8 coach units would be useful for the Chester line on weekends. Which if I remember correctly did get some 6 coach services before the 777s started to arrive and Merseyrail had a full fleet of 50Xs.

Just shows Merseytravel made the mistake of not ordering fixed formation 120 metre stock to allow everything to run full length even if sometimes the trains would be emptier (but then it might have generated more growth if people knew they were more likely to get a seat, or in some cases board the train). [Similar to Great Northern replacing the 313s with 6 coach 717s or Thameslink replacing 319/377s with the 8/12 coach 700s]

I think Merseytravel made many mistakes with this fleet but i wouldn't expect anything less from them .. Stadler being the main one of them all.

But we are now stuck with them and God willing they will get their act together.

Long-term the Southports, Ormskirks, Hunts Cross and Chester lines should see daily 8 cars, there's some short term pain to come first though...

Completely agree, Chester line gets very busy at weekends.
Especially with the half hourly service on Sundays, alway seems to be people sitting on the floor

With the pseudo DOO they have, would it even require a 2nd guard for the other set, or could they just shove a second one of the back and double sunday capacity at 0 cost

I imagine as they don’t have 2 on current 6 car formations they wouldn’t need it on 8 either, unless the union agreement states otherwise

I see 026 and 017 are the new perma-joined pair on the Ormskirk line. PIS isn’t happy though, and I’ve only seen the pair with a mixture of “Not in service” and “Merseyrail” in the outer display boards, rather than a destination.

The previous formation was 2 Swiss units. Is this the first mixed Swiss/Polish formation? The PIS issues may be caused by software build differences that still exist between the 2 fleets.

I think the first day of public service 8-car was a mixed formation too.

777045 has been out on test on the Southport line.
This one has been in passenger service for around two months now.

Schedules currently showing for Wednesday 1000 5Z76 Kings Norton OTPD to Walton Old Junction MSC Sidings and 2206 5Q77 to Kirkdale CS
Reported to be 777033 & 777047 coming up tonight. No idea on what traction is hauling the units.

777017 & 777028.

The Headbolt Lane line is dropped down to 3tph again today. I don't know of any engineering works so I can only assume this is 777 related.

Bromborough station (and other stations on the line to Hooton) has acquired "8 Car stop" signs, which are located 2/3 of the way down the platform ramp. I presume this is where the driver's cab has to be to get all the doors onto the platform?
