Looks like the Wirral Line on Merseyrail has been a bit of a problem today;

Due to an ongoing track fault in the James Street area, services on our Wirral Line are expected to be disrupted until further notice.

Chester Line - Services will continue to run, but are subject to delay.

Ellesmere Port - A shuttle service will run between Hooton & E Port only.

New Brighton - Services start & terminate at Birkenhead North.

West Kirby - Services will continue to run, but are subject to delay.

Apparently, this has been ongoing since this morning. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Was first reported on Monday evening (25 September) according to Merseyrail's Twitter. Apparently the problem is with an axle counter in the Liverpool loop. Was expected to be fixed overnight but problems continued all day today.

Merseyrail have now announced that on Wednesday 27 September a reduced timetable will run with 30 minute frequency on all Wirral Line routes. Full timetable on Merseyrail website
