Great set of photos...... until I got to the ones of Hill Top Tunnel!

Please take this as a word of caution, but your position shown clearly in the photos was on private land owned by Centro - so you were actually trespassing there. Centro bought up quite a lot of the land either side of the trackbed when the Metro line was constructed - I've seen the plans first hand and that area from the footpath at the top of the embankment down to the trackbed is NOT public access. I've no doubt that the driver passing you made a call to our control room and reported your presence as we are duty-bound to. Safety is our main consideration - and that location has seen some nasty incidents in the past involving children running down the slope. That fence visible in the foreground is there as a 'catch fence' to hopefully stop someone ending up under a high speed tram. You will have noticed how steep it is to get down there?

passing by on a tram it may look like there is a fence on the top of the embankment but its just wide open to just walk on down to were the 4 ft wire fence is (which is were i was takeing the photos ) i guess metro or centro need to address this . but i will take heed of your word and refrain from any more photos at the tunnel


one thing i do find odd is these photos which i find more dangerous than standing behind the 4ft fence at the tunnel . no fence at all for anyone to walk on the track ! there seems to be a lot of sections along the track bed like it ?

These photos are intended to show the midland metro has it is in 2012 before any ghanges take place with the comeing of the new Trams and any alterations to the metro stops.

The point about safety was concerning the location at Hill Top (the possibilities of someone rolling down etc). At the other locations you indicate - yes we do have an open trackside but on the level...

Not ideal I know - it's something to do with the previous designation of the trackbed as a public right-of-way after the heavy rail line closed in 1972. You might be thinking it looks dangerous being virtually on the running rails where the footpath runs at the same level - well so do we! We drive 'line of sight' anyway, which means we are anticipating someone jumping out etc..

tram 08 and 12 have had there front ends painted and they they look smart. hope they dont do my favourite no 04 she looks almost black on the one end from a distance.

Interesting sets of photographs

Two comments:
1. How did you make Birmingham look as though it had Continental skies and sunshine? (most of the time...)
2. Why did I see so few passengers? Were your photographs taken before the system was in public use?

Whatever, it's what we need in Milton Keynes - many of the main roads already have the space for something like a metro.

But some extremely fantastic photographs. Only see the Metro at Wolverhampton and the bit that follows the Mainline from The Hawthorns myself.
