Right, I was thinking the other day about how could Transport for West Midlands/Midland Metro Alliance get the Midland Metro to Stourbridge Town/Junction without:
  1. Causing significant tram work chaos in Brierley Hill, Merry Hill and Stourbridge centres (especially the former 2, with Brierley Hill being 'tarted up' as part of the 'Future High Streets fund'
  2. long stretches of single line running on the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton line between Kingswinford Junction and Stourbridge
  3. diluting the planned 10 trams per hour service between Merry Hill and Birmingham/Wolverhampton
  4. Having to need a fleet of dedicated "tram trains"
  5. cutting the sidings at Stourbridge Junction
The only logical routing I could think of, that complied with all 3 of those points, involved having the Metro split at Merry Hill so 5 tph terminated at Brierley Hill, 5 continue to Stourbridge. The new line would then follow the Dudley canal through to Withymoor Village centre, then some on street running past the Sainsburys superstore. It would then run through the areas currently acting as footpaths to then cross Hillfields Road at the junction of Oakhill Drive (https://www.google.com/maps/@52.4648785,-2.1395721,18z), then run alongside the OWW line until it meets the Chiltern LMD at Stourbridge Junction, with a new chord being made to be able to send trams to Stourbridge Interchange, and also making use of Platform 1 of Stourbridge Junction (potential there to re-double the Town branch line and then have a shuttle tram between the Town and Junction, replacing the 139s used.)

How do you think any WM Metro extension to Stourbridge could work?
