Apologies if this is in the wrong section, wasn't sure which section was suitable.

I'm currently on 1S25 which is the CS Highlander divert via ECML. Because of the reversal at Wembley, I've been able to chalk off 2x 92s for the price of one but I'm struggling to find the mileage between Euston and Wembley Reception 1-7 and then from Wembley Reception 1-7 to Camden Road Jct. Railmiles does not like it but will work out the mileage between Camden Road Jct and Edinburgh so just wondering if anyone can help me fill in the gaps please?

In the main Caledonian Sleeper thread there‘s an attempt at working it out, it came up last year. Not my specialist subject but it might help you:

Appreciate the link (probably should have posted this in there haha) but I'm not really following the workings. There doesn't appear to be any obvious correlation between the mile start and mile ends and where the start and end points are. Probably just me as I am the same in the sense that this is not something I am even close to be being clued up on - I generally just rely on railmiles

Depending on how accurate you want to be, it will vary slightly if you went on the Reliefs under the WCML, via the High Level Goods past the PRDC or via the Through Sidings directly off the WCML slows to WEFOC.

However with the schedule: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C20730/2024-04-28/detailed#allox_id=0
You can follow the mileages through if you have a reference for the junctions. http://www.railwaycodes.org.uk/elrs/_mileages/l/lec1.shtm

The RTT Schedule indicates the train used the Willesden Reliefs from Willesden No.7 Jn into Wembley Yard then the HLG from Wembley Yard to Harlesden Jn where it rejoins the WCML. I'm not sure from RTT if the train went SL-FL at Willesden West London Jn or SL direct to the Reliefs although the total mileage wouldn't be affected by this (although exactly which tracks you used would be).

Old school method: Print off a map and use a length of thread to follow the line.

It doesn't need to be pinpoint. I try to be as accurate as I can but I know full well that this could send you mad if you try to do it to the precise chain!

This is a great link! It's at least allowed me to produce an answer on a rough basis. I'm not asking you to double check or work it out for me but if I said I'd got Euston-->Wembley-->Camden Rd Jct to around 13 miles 38 chains would you (or anybody) say that at least sounded about right?

I need to invest in one of those things we had at school that went round as you walked with it and clicked every metre :D

If you have a Smartphone, maybe download some sort of app that counts distance - start it when you leave Euston and stop it when you arrive at Wembley! Make sure you keep the phone in one place once you start the counter for an accurate result!

Certainly sounds about right. Any greater detail and you'd need to start asking where in the train you were for the total distance covered!

Not a lot of use on board the train though, and you may get some questions if you appeared lineside :D
