For many years there was an ex-RAF Jet Provost trainer in the beer garden of the Royal Standard pub in Northallerton, North Yorkshire....but I believe that it has been removed now.

There is a tank of some description outside the Hollins Mill pub in Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire. It belongs to the owner of the pub and is still in working order with a current registration. From time to time it goes off for a trundle around the area or to rallies and other events.

Does anyone remember a aeroplane in a garden beside the line at Appleby during the 1970s and early 80s? It was on on your left as you were heading north. It looked like something from WW2.

It was a De Havilland Comet jet airliner from the 1950s....placed in the grounds of Appleby Grammar School. Not sure when it was removed or where it went.

It was Vampire WZ576, not a Comet, which was an airliner. It seems to have been sold to Canada circa 1986, but I can’t follow it further.

OK....thanks for that. I was told by an old hand Skipton driver that it was a Comet....but it had gone by the time I transferred from Aylesbury to Skipton in 1991. I vaguely recall seeing it from the train on various trips in earlier years, but couldn't recall the type. Perhaps it had been used by the school's Air Training Corps?

Looking in the obvious place ‘Full Details’, it appears to have been used by 2192 Air Training Corps (Appleby Grammar School). It was put for tender in July 1987 and sold to Canada, but written off during shipment.

Lightning XN 728 was in a field next to the A1 near Newark for many years. This website suggests it has gone now:

Welcome to the home of arguably the most well-known of all the lightning aircraft ever built, XN728. Or as most people know her, the 'A1 Lightning' formerly at Balderton, Newark.

There was a Ford car dealership in Birmingham called ‘Meteor Ford’ that had a Gloster Meteor on their forecourt circa 1973-1975.

The dealership closed down in 2014, but to my surprise the aircraft (Airframe EE531) is still in existence at the Midland Aircraft Museum at Coventry Airport.

A decommissioned Chieftan tank has sat outside Victoria era "Palmerston" Fort Southwick for several years.
It overlooks Portsmouth, atop Portsdown Hill. It is a fetching shade of pea green!
If the weather here improves, I'll take a photo of it - but here's a link to a photo in the public domain
