Evening,

Recently i passed my DMI and have got through to the above stage.

For full disclosure, i do not work within the industry and am trying to prepare as best i can prior to the MMI.

I have recieved some practice material and have some prepared answers for MMI

Any tips or advice will be greatly appreciated.

I understand this has probably been discussed on this forum but i cannot find it!!

feel free copy links if easier than typing.

Thanks in advance.

These were the questions that I prepared for the MMI. I wrote out full answers to these questions using the STAR method and then just went over them each night so I didn't miss out any important details.

1 - Describe a time where you've had to follow rules and procedures

2 - Describe a time where you've been involved in an emergency / unexpected situation

3 - Describe a time you've been on a training course for over 2 weeks

4 - Describe your greatest achievement

5 - Describe a time where you've had to work for long periods of time alone

6 - Describe a time you've had to solve a difficult problem

7 - Give an example of a time you undertook a task similar to train driver's role

8- Give an example where you've had to work under pressure.

9 - Give an example where you've had to communicate an important message

10- Give an example where you've had to work as part of a team (to achieve a task)

Good luck with your assessment

Hi,

Would these examples be similar to the DMI questions?

Thanks

Some questions may well be the same, however you will have to go into much more detail about what your actions were and why you made certain decisions.

Would you go in more detail in the MMI?

I certainly did. You only get 6 questions, so need to go into reasons for a certain action, how you came to that decision, how you felt, how your actions or decisions gave a positive outcome.

Ok thanks, are the DMI questions similar or more along the lines of what do you know about the company? Tell me about yourself etc?

DMI is more about why do you want the job, what skills can you bring, what you know about the company, how you deal with stress, etc. Its more like a traditional interview. You can still get some scenario type questions, time you have worked as part of a team, worked alone, involved in an emergency.

It depends on the TOC too, I recently had my DMI with WMT and they did not ask a single question about the company. It was more why do you want to be a train driver, what motivates you, how do you stay focused? with the odd competency based question thrown in like name a time you worked under pressure, an example of good customer service.

I found it strange they didn't ask about the company and would definitely advise preparing for it if you have applied for another TOC

Ok thanks for that, I'm going to make sure I cover all bases so there are no surprises!
