hmm. I think it's quite silly really. We are free to photograph what we want (Except of course certain objects like CCTV cameras and any security equipment), but we are free to photograph landscapes or even good picture opportunity's. If local councils are saying no to photography in their parks/forests/lakes ect... then that's just being stupid. surely journalists would be allowed to do that sort of thing, but why not people who aren't journalists?

You are free to photograph CCTV cameras (except at those certain sites) as well. This is just another part of the surveillance state of racial and age profiling that the Labour party has created. Is this what our predecessors gave up and risked their lives for in numerous wars?

I liked it when a BBC journo was filming once and two plastic policemen approached him. He got out his BBC staff ID card and the two pigs quickly walked off. Probably going to hassle some old lady.

I was passed that petition on from a friend. I nicely replied where he could stick it.

And that Hobbie Bobbie needs bringing down! What a cheek telling the photographer to shut up!

The more aggressive officer seemed totally clueless. First of all touching the man's camera, then coming out with a load of crap when he was challenged.

If I went on like the photographer however, I'd be arrested. The only time the police bothered me when I've been photting, they searched me and that was when I was polite to them . I can think of better ways they can spend their time if they can't - there's plenty of street crime around here which needs addressing.

The police just love picking on easy targets to get their figures up, especially the number of white people they can search. Last year the police had some sort of metal detector set up at Temple Meads at 4pm on a Friday afternoon, getting in the way of commuters. Bet you'd never catch them at 10pm on a Saturday when drunks are hassling the station staff and running across the tracks!

10 pm on a Saturday? At Dalreoch about 5 o'clock today there was a group of 5 alcoholics (well known to the single staff member on duty) who were harassing the rest of the pax.

Interesting video.

I like how it hinted that having people taking pictures in general is a useful way of counteracting crime. I wish some of the jobsworths at stations would see railway enthusiasts from that perspective.

Thankfully I've never been bothered by anyone at a station. Or anyother place for that matter. Ever. :D

most of the photographic sites are buzzing at the moment over the rights of photographers, many cases of security and police support staff have been acting illegally in relation to matters of this nature, indeed in some cases crimes of common assault and theft have been recorded, cases of photographer being told to delete photographs etc, the recent campaign however should help educate those who have been ill trained in the matters of civil liberties.

Just print a copy of this off and put it in your camera bag, hand it to anyone in authority who harressess you and warn them that you will take action against if they persist.

Well I sent a quick letter to my MP encouraging them to sign the EDM and whilst they haven't done this, perhaps they misunderstood my query, they did pass my letter onto an MP at the Home Office. Now I've got a letter from Tony McNulty MP, Minister of State for Security, Counter-terrorism, Crime and Policing, saying that there is "no legal restriction on photography in public places". I think I'll be carrying a copy of this with me in my camera bag, should come in handy if I have any trouble. :)

Some interesting views from 'The Management' of this site...

Rule 1a states "Members should post in a way that is respectful of other individuals"... Mmmm wonder how the 'two pigs' you talked about feel about that?

The rules are more to do with members to members, than the examples shown above. You'd think I'd know the rules after all the infractions I have had!

Why do you say that?

I think it is good that people are standing up to those abusing their authority.

That's a bit generic Yorkie. Just coz those 2 haven't got a clue, doesn't mean they all don't.

It's quite common actually. I've seen a few people stopped by PCSO's here in Scunthorpe, and the pretend police don't have a clue what their on about at times.
