I have been running a General Motors FTA-FTB (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_FT ) with an Irish Rail mk2 set tonight. What other highly unrealistic trains have been run by forum members?
In the days when I owned a Hornby Trakmat Smokey Joe would often pull two Mk4s plus a DVT.
Mine couldn'tI used to have a Hornby Pacer that could get around tight bends without squealing...
If it is the Hornby "Caley Pug" (the 0-4-0 saddle tank design of which "Smokey Joe" is the long surviving example in the Hornby range) you are referring to, then it's still 00 scale, it's just that the prototype locomotives were diminutive in stature to begin with. The LMS 0-4-0 tank engine (possibly HO scale?) looked very titchy when hauling 3 EWS HAA (00 scale) hopper wagons.
When my class 91 was O.O.S my dinky tank engine would very ably deputise for it when hauling 2 mk4s, a DVT, and four goods wagons smattered in between![]()
running a blue class 31 with two pre-grouping Great Eastern coaches; and running an IC 225 with a 91, DVT... and two trailers!
When I was ten I had a BR blue HST set with one coach.
