Hi all, we have the following quiz submission from @nickw1 :

The aim of this quiz is to find at least 30 British railway stations (either main-line or metro, but not preserved rail and not closed stations) which have featured in either the title, or the artist, of any UK Top 40 hit.

If we get stuck (I do not know for certain whether there actually are 30 such stations) then the quiz will be widened to Top 75 hits and album tracks.

I will start with perhaps the most obvious: "Waterloo" by Abba.

Elephant & Castle on the Hill - Ed Sheeran

That wouldn't really count: the entire station has to be contained within the song name or artist name. (Sorry if I wasn't clear but my intention was this).

Piccadilly Circus was a track by whatever band Norman Baker MP was in. But I don't think it entered the charts!

If we are allowed albums, Rockferry by Duffy

Neasden by Willie Russell

can’t confirm it made it into the top 40 back in 1972 though?

OK one more that I came up with; I came up with five but will leave others to guess for now ;)

More Than A Feeling - Boston

(I think the band were named after Boston, MA rather than the one here - but still counts)

The first wouldn't really count as the stations are Portsmouth and Southsea, Portsmouth Harbour, and Portsmouth Arms, and the entire station name needs to be within the title or the artist.

Unless there is another station called simply 'Portsmouth' which I am unaware of, in some other part of the country (a la Chichester, Tyne and Wear).

The rest though, fine.'Starcrossed' is a particularly clever one - have to admit I haven't come across this track, but yes, it's top 40.
