A new layout idea for Herne Hill in South London. The arrangement places the slow Thameslink (TL) tracks in the middle of the twin island platform layout, with the fast Chatham (LCD) tracks weaving around the outside. Thus stopping TL trains need to cross only one fast line at a time and more parallel moves across the junctions are possible simultaneously. Stopping services on the LCD are not shown. Visualisation created using the Maprail Block simulator.

On the other hand, TL and SE cannot run into HNH simultaneously, which might cause a lot of passenger frustration in the evening peak particularly.

Installing the new layout at the country end might be a challenge too.

Having the facility to have consecutive northbound Blackfriars trains using both northbound platforms simultaneously is essential for regulation to the core.

Also, the ability to have a train to or from Blackfriars being routed into one of the outer platforms concurrently with trains signalled along the main line is also essential.
