My idea to cease running trains on Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday and run trains on Boxing Day instead

Easter Sunday is one of the key dates in the Premier League and Football League calendar, a day when many promotion and relegation matters are decided. A lot of people also travel to spend time with family and friends on Easter Day.

Christmas Eve is one of the absolute key travel days of the year. Many people don’t finish work until the 23rd/34th December, so Christmas Eve is a crucial travel day to enable them to return home for Christmas.
Easter Sunday is one of the lowest usage days. The argument of this being the case as the railway is blocked is a different conversation.

I would counter-suggest that the railway to stop running trains on New Year Day (after 04:00) instead of Boxing Day, with additional departures before 04:00.

Everyone deserves a holiday on New Year Day. It is a universal holiday and is religion-neutral, while Christmas is clearly religious. We should also introduce more holidays for other religions as well, including Buddhism holidays and Muslim holidays in addition to Christmas and Easter.

How are people getting home after celebrating? Or do they have to so that before 4am? The hotel industry will love that.

Just - that little thing in London and, I'm sure, other UK cities. The crowds who travel to see the New Year's Day Parade....

People in other countries say the same thing when they hear there are no trains in Britain on Christmas and Boxing Day!
