I was lucky to catch this unit shooting through Taunton this morning on what presumably is one of its last runs:

It was at Temple Meads on Saturday. In the bay at the extreme north end of the station.

I don't suppose theres any interest in a preservation group or anything? It's a very unique unit!
I’m not aware of an interest as yet, but I hope so. I like to see test trains be preserved as technology showpieces.

Any chance of a guest appearance at The Greatest Gathering?

It has many more movements planned including a trip to Plymouth, Penzance and Barnstaple over the next few days. Then a trip to Norwich and Sheringham.

950001 will only be disposed of once its replacements 153384 and 153379 are ready for use, these are both at Derby being attended to.
Just wondering whether 153384 is visible from passing trains, or whether it's hidden inside a shed.
Does anyone know, please?
Many thx

Unfortunately it then seems to go straight back to Derby via Welwyn! Shame.
Interesting I can’t see that working on real-time trains. Can you share a link?
Does anyone know what working 950001 is doing today please?

Thanks
No planned workings today next one will be this:

It wasn’t planned to run to Reading. There isn’t even a schedule on real time trains to get it there!
@XCTurbostar

Afternoon

This is the schedule that saw it get to Reading

950001 is currently stabled in the Provincial Siding at Newcastle after working this today: -

It's working to York via the Northumberland line and the Durham Coast tomorrow morning.

Here is a picture of it this evening on its Ferme Park to Derby run, for anyone interested.

Image shows the 950 passing Gospel Oak, with a Class 378 in the background.

Today's trip for 950001 - along the North Wales Coast Line and then down the Conwy Valley Line to Blaenau Ffestiniog

Hi all,

After speaking to a Colas driver, I have been told the 950 will continue to operate until at least 2026/2027.

It will be transfered to the NRM when withdrawn - a Colas driver said they tried to buy it.

BIB - if that is true, they could always do like Ashville and attempt to purchase a 153 ;)

That will be good news to see the 950 in preservation. Not much is known publicly about the unit; it would serve as a good showpiece for infrastructure monitoring technology and test trains as a whole.

I'm pretty sure they own it, it's just still sat at Long Marsden with the rest of them!

Are there any maintenance trains in preservation?

I assume a solo 153 can go everywhere 950 can (although I believe two 153s can't go round Calstock curve)?

Can't say much but I would like to do a Preservation Project with this, but if the NRM are hot on this, then there isn't much hope for it to still be active, which is definitely unfortunate.

I cant believe the NRM want science chug! Why would they?

Before talking about preserving it: Have any of you been on board it?
All museums have collections development policies, aims ect.

Museums are also being insentivised to provide more in the way of stem related objects and programmes thanks to grants.

I work for a museum so happy to try give more indications why.
