Given we have a Scotrail Alliance in Scotland with Network rail working hand in hand with Abellio , its perhaps timely to review how the Network Rail part of the operation if fairing as Abellio seem to take the flak for both .

My observation of superficial visually apparent fabric of the infrastructure is that it's being neglected and low quality.

Be intersted in others observations.

Stations. My own station Dunblane. The centre platform. Weeds now knee height along the full length of the platform thru the gravel. Looks like an abandoned station! Contrast with the work volunteers do on the opposite platform which is tidy.

The new station bridge. 2 years old. Rusting badly. Paint flaked off. Stonework stained. Glass green mould and moss covered. Just two years old looks like 12 year old. Cheap nasty materials. Now being replicated in Stirling station . If you use glass. You need to clean it!

The newly improved footbridge north of the station. The four yellow warning signs for overhead cables. All just glued on. All four fell off weeks later. Poor workmanship. Given tragic events at a similar bridge recently I have reported them missing. What are Network Rail local staff doing . Do they not notice them missing ?

Falkirk Grahamston. Need I say more. Looks appalling.

Waverley Steps. Glazing and steelwork filthy. Never been cleaned in years . Our flagship station.

Waverley approach tracks. Weeds densely growing thru sleepers points and trackside equipment .this seems far worse than I have seen in decades of travel into Waverley.

Haymarket glazing again never cleaned .

All told it looks like neglect and cheap materials are the trademark of Network Rail in Scotland.

The stations are the front facing image of our railway to passengers and foreign and domestic visitors. They don't present well and convey a sloppy image of the whole rail operation

Do others agree ?

I agree that there are many stations showing signs of advanced dilapidation, but I'm not sure that they exist in any greater proportions in Scotland.

Having said that I don't there's any very large station in the network in worse overall condition than Perth, someone could start a Trivia thread to explore the subject.
