You will be aware that there is work underway on the A14 Huntingdon to Cambridge upgrade. This involves a new bridge being constructed over the East Coast mainline near Offord Cluny and Offord D’Arcy (see map).

Just wondered with large road Projects whether there is information on the Network Rail aspects on their website e.g. when the work is likely to be undertaken and what restrictions will occur (did try various searches but maybe I’m using the wrong criteria) as I can’t see anything there or on the Highways Agency site.

Many thanks

Highways England (Highways Agency as was) does not generally refer to the rail network on its website except in general descriptions of projects with rail interfaces and announcements of road works which have a rail aspect, such as rail bridge replacements or maintenance. A recent example (last September I think) was when electrification work on the lengthy blue rail bridge over the M4 east of Bristol Parkway required weekend overnight closures of the motorway with diversions on local roads.
The new A14 bridge over the ECML is on a greenfield site with no impact on existing roads so won't need publicising on the HA website.

I've enjoyed looking at these. I remember Huntingdon before the road viaduct there was built. Now to be demolished. Might make me feel a bit old!

Depending on the exact design, methods exist to launch an overbridge into place from one side without closing the railway at all. If it consists of multiple girders they could be craned in gradually during a number of overnight closures. Either way it shouldn’t result in a major impact on passenger services...

There are a number of weekend possessions planned during Summer 2019 and 2020, for completion of the new Offord viaduct and demolition of the "Huntingdon Railway Viaduct" respectively. I can't find the exact source but a quick search threw this up.

It's a shame that we haven't put in the Offord level crossing replacement to take advantage of the same possessions, but there we go.

Well, almost. The Offord-Godmanchester road has slowed down a bit :p

Yeah, not dealing with the Offord crossing is a missed opportunity. Project should never have been put on hold.
