Getting an accurate, up to date station count for the network wasn't easy...

ORR stats Table 6329 - Station attributes for all mainline stations - is a spreadsheet including the station operator - download from https://dataportal.orr.gov.uk/stati...station-attributes-for-all-mainline-stations/, and a bit of manipulation will provide counts on that basis.

For a stations served count, the only list of stations with TOCs serving them AFAIK is from the Knowledgebase data feed - see what I wrote before to get it as a spreadsheet:
Thanks for that, found the annual TOC "ridership" data too!

Regarding the Atlas itself, having just received my copy yesterday, I can say I am impressed by the extra "zoom-in" maps, as well as showing all routes including freight as single or double track (although it would have been nice to see Bicester to Bletchley as a solid line!). The National Rail lines in London (zoom-in maps) now are solid black lines, and the GB electrification map at the end has colour added to it. Overall, it just "looks" better than previous editions, IMHO. I recommend it :)

Hello all! First post here... Yes I'm that Joe Brown. Thanks for the feedback - please keep it coming. If there are any corrections or additions please drop me an email at [email protected] ...I have attached everything that I have amended since publication.

As I mentioned in the preface, I suspect many/most of the proposed stations and routes carried over from 'Restoring your Railways' will be deleted for the 17th edition (which I'd hope could be published in 2027, which is the 50th anniversary of 'Baker').

Generally, I'm posting updates about future titles on X and Bluesky as @joebrownlondon as well as a daily London railway history fact for the past year (I guess I should diversify beyond London now!)

Hi Joe

Welcome to the forum. It's fantastic that you have carried on the legacy of Stuart Baker, and I am so pleased to have already bought a copy direct from Crecy, cutting out the middleman.

I'll admit the change in showing single lines is taking a bit of getting used to, but after 40 years maybe that's not a surprise. And I'm glad to see that some of the more doubtful proposed schemes are going to be dropped - with the exception of those schemes actually in construction I feel the Atlas should stick to a record of the current position - future editions will pick up any proposed schemes as they go forward.

I'd also encourage others to follow you on X or (preferably) Bluesky - the daily history update is always interesting!

Many thanks John :D Yes ditching the cross-hatching of single lines and going for two different line weights was a bit of a radical deviation from the 'Baker' heritage but on balance I think it's an improvement. I generally tried to tidy up the cartography as much as possible. I agree about showing proposals, I think it's best to show only things with approval / funding as 'proposed', in addition to what's 'under construction'. Restoring your Railways or not, the bulk never had a hope in hell of materialising.
