London Bridge ASC. It's a fixed term contract so i'm applying for Three Bridges ROC as soon as I can. If we are both successful maybe we will end up there together!

How times change ! Street to Grade 9 straight away ! Ahhh I recall the days starting in a Grade A box, where you had to do a minimum of 12 months aftyer passing out, then worked your way up through B, C to F :)
(now of course 1 to 9, with the rare 10 ) !

I'd suggest GCSE higher level maths, especially percentages and data interpretation. It isn't calculating quadratic equations, it's performing multiple calculations and extracting the right numbers to use in the right ways.

Good luck!

Hello All,

Intresting to hear about the assessments changing again.

I want to ask peoples thoughts on the '70 pre screening' questions we have to answer. Im slightly confused as to if all 70 questions have to be answered in the affirmative for applications to be progressed?

I ask as I find some of the questions asking for experience can only be gained from doing the job already. And the role im interested in is only a grade 2-3. For examplex times dealing with Fatalities, liasing with eleterical control rooms, complex possesions, regularly managing train service delays, dealing wiith SPADs, Line blockages, TWPS activation, good working knowlege of Academy and the Signaller competence management process.

I do understand that these are crucial for thee role, but for A grade 2-3 post, im just wondering if it Is all required to answer and give a example etc.

Thoughts?

All of those could be dealt with at a Gr2 or 3 Box, although the electrical control would depend on what the line was equipped with.

For all those questions I simply answered n/a and completed the ones appropriate to me and I was successful in the application

There is a 12 month "ban" for want of a better word now on starting and applying for another post.

I'm not sure whether it applies from start of employment or pass out as a signaller - oh and your LOM won't be impressed applying for jobs inside the FTC, or at least in the first half.

The volume vacancy was created so everyone who had applied under the old scheme could be put through the new tests.

The result of your test (pass or fail letter) should have been attached to your application on the original vacancy then you'd move I guess from Test Completed status to 'Under Consideration for Assessment 2' which is the interview.

Ok, thats interesting, I asked HR about this, and they say a similar thing. As long as the majority of the questions are given experiances, it should go through.

Did you just mark 'no' then n/a in the box below?

I got a grade 3 offer and I answered no to all of those questions.

Okay well having had a go at the practice tests I can safely say that I will never become a signaller.

Edit: well as some people have said, the actual test was not quite as awful as the practice ones, but I still ended up with at least 4 questions where the answer I came up with was not one of the multiple choice options!:oops::oops:

The verbal one wasn't that straightforward either... doesn't seem I have what it takes to be a signaller!

Just hope they don't keep me in suspense for too long

You have to do exactly that, on the first run through I left those questions blank and when you try and submit, it just kicks you back to the questions that you "missed". Every single box has to have some form of answer in it or "computer says no"

Bit of a pain, but I guess it leaves no room for any doubt.

Stay positive Martin, you never know. Law of attraction and all that.

Took 6 days for a result from the assessment tests, so you should have an answer soon.

You are right I've just had an email saying I met the benchmark and my application is still under consideration!

I don't know what that means tbh but at least I'm not out of the running just yet..!!

I was going to tell you - seriously do not worry. I came out certain that I would not have even met the benchmark.

You'll now be ranked with the other candidates and the best x% or x amount (not sure which) will be invited to interview for the position with the Local Operations Manager (LOM)

If you score the best here (based on the non-technical skills that NR look for) then it's medical and references. If nothing bad comes up there it's signal school!

Relax for now. It'll take time for them to calculate everyone and your next communication will either be a "you're now being considered by a hiring manager" where your application and results are reviewed or a "sorry better luck next time"

If it's the latter you will have your results held on file for 12 months and you can resit the tests after six. I do not think there is a limit on how many times you can retry. You'd have six months to brush up on the verbal, SJT and maths.

If it is the former brush up on the NTS and think of your previous job history and the responsibilities you held. Apply the NTS to those responsibilities and have a rough idea of times you used them. DO NOT GO IN WITH SPECIFIC EXAMPLES YOU MUST USE

Be flexible - you can't shoehorn anything in to fit a question it doesn't answer. Have that in mind and you'll put your self in good stead for the interview. Good luck!

Had completed the application, and submitted and you were right. Been aaccepted and now been invited to do the online assessments. The SJT seemed pretty straightforward. Im now going to attempt the Verbal Reasoning, and Numerical Ability. From what I have read in the post, they seem like quite challenging assessments.

Just got back an email saying reject before interview. What a bummer. I passed all online tests etc and was under consideration by the hiring manager for invite to interview. Does anybody know if this would be because my CV isn't great? Or would there be another explanation?

Possibly because you passed all the tests but to go for an interview, you need to be in the top percentage. I think they interview 5, or mine did, so you may have passed but 5 others passed with higher scores. Chin up and go again.....if your score isn't high enough for interview, I believe you can re-sit in 6 months

It could be that your CV/Application didn't hit enough of the key words and phrases that might be used to bench mark. It could be you gave really excellent details of experiences that didn't answer the right question. It could be a number of things. I'd drop HR an email and ask for some feedback. They've been pretty good.

You must think like me. I did that when I got unsuccessful email. Awaiting a reply. Will update if I receive one as it may also help somebody else in the future
