Tomorrow I am taking my 7 year-old granddaughter to Durham for a few hours, travelling out on the 11:29 LNER train, returning by bus.

Unknown to me, she has a party to attend late in the afternoon ..and for a 7 year-old that seems to be the most important thing in the world.

I have advance purchase tickets, so I know this sort of ticket can not be changed (or at least without a fee) but I might ask if there would the opportunity to travel a wee bit earlier 910:58). What do folk here think is the chance of this being permitted?

I'll ask anyway .. what is the worst that can happen .. they say no

I traveled from Glasgow Queens Street to Edinburgh a couple of months ago and was told that travelling earlier was actually encouraged.. I even posted on this forum about that.

The chance of it being permitted is near-nil. You can change the ticket but there will indeed be a fee depending on the retailer, which did you use and what did it cost?

Given that a Newcastle to Durham Off Peak Day Single is £4.80 for an adult and £2.40 for a child (before any railcard discounts) I'd just purchase new tickets.

Many people here don't get that usually explaining the situation to the Train Manager will be fine. Most I've spoken to are reasonable nice people. Worst case scenario on operators like this is they ask you to buy a new ticket.
