Yes, it's been like that for ages. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that work is actually progressing although, given that there's a lot of sheets covering the working area, it's very difficult to tell.

The buffet closed before Covid and has never reopened. It suffered from being at the wrong end of the station and being a long walk from where the majority of the trains stopped. It's difficult to say what can be done about that end of the station given it's position.
There's also a Costa Coffee outside on platform 1 entrance so that would probably take a lot of the business making a café less viable?
Where would a café go now? As you say it's wrong end of the platform, was fine when old footbridge exited opposite but too far away now. Also before rebuild platform 4 didn't exist and 1 was rarely used so almost all passengers would have departed or arrived on platforms 2/3 and this is no longer the case making it a very long walk if it did reopen.

There is a Costa right outside the main entrance and a coffee kiosk inside the Godfrey Road entrance though.

That's true, forgot about the Kiosk (and I walk past it every time as that's the entrance I use!!).
