If you’ve not see the O gauge pre-prediction model yet by the way, here it is. Already it captures the face of the prototype a lot more than Hornby’s effort certainly does.

*ps, rivets to be made far more prominent and this was a first edition model.
That does look stunning, and it has a real presence about it.

Indeed. I can’t remember who posted these but it was after Heljan’s prototype was doing the rounds last year.

I know Heljan has had its issues with some of their more recent releases, but going on the basis of how it’s bigger O gauge brother looks, I would say this is shaping up to be an excellent rendition!

To be honest Hornby's 153 is one of their better models IMO, I own two of them and they're the only Hornby models in my fleet. It's not a perfect depiction of the real thing but it's close enough. It may look poor alongside Heljan's 155, and if so I may move them on. If that's the case, I'll have to track down a Heljan version and they may be hard to come by by then, but that's a problem for another day!

Absolutely gorgeous. That carriage lighting brings back the year I spent commuting on 153s on the Marston Vale. The heady scent of mingled sweat, fumes, and dust... we have sound chips now, so when are smell chips coming? ;)

It’s a nice idea, they look nice, fill a gap in the market and are well detailed but not for me at that price either I don’t think, they aren’t something I particularly need. I might have picked one up for the novelty if they a bit more reasonably priced.

Rapido just announced a good range of coaches, insanely expensive for their size but they instantly deleted my comment saying that so maybe not
£60 (with retailer discount) for a highly detailed coach with lighting is about right. About the same as AccuraScale coaches and cheaper than Bachmann ones.
Prior to recent reductions, they are about the same price as the EFE Cross Country coaches, which aren't as high spec as these ones.

Too many assume discounted prices are the norm and squeal when they see the list price of a new product. £69.95 is the list price of Bachmann Thompson coaches and £5 cheaper than the Bachmann Bulleids and Rapidos smaller than these Wisbech & Upwell tramcar which are all unlit.

Also posted in the Latest Acquisitions thread, but the Accurascale Class 31s are finally on their way. It's taken that long that I've forgotten which retailer I ordered my "skinhead" version from (I know it wasn't Hattons, as that was the blue ETH example which I re-ordered from TMC after Hatton's closed) and said retailer has not yet sent me an email. TMC have sent theirs, so I've at least one 31 on the way!
