Nicknames for rail companies, usually wittily disparaging, were common in the pre-grouping era e.g. the two railways that served Kent were the Slow Easy and Careless, and the Lose'em Smash'em and Turnover.

I recently learnt that what used to be God's Wonderful Railway is now Worst Late Western. Any more such nicknames for TOCs, or can we make some up?

Not really a toc but:

Hammersh*t & City line? Certainly used to be known as such about 10 years ago in London - it has improved massively tho since.

My version was "Land 'em, Smash 'em and Over, for the same reason that the LMS was Lose 'em, Mix 'em and Smash 'em. It's also Long, Mouldy and Slow.

Others I've heard include:
WCML = Wonky Coaches Mainly Late
West of England Line = WOERail
SWT = Scheming Wasteful Tangle
AXC = Always Extremely C***

I've heard the 'Hammersmith & S****y Line' before

As pronounced by Sean Connery:?: Reverse the name of the Scottish soap 'River City', then do an impression - kind of sums it up.

Since they come up a lot, some other old ones:
GWR = Gone With Regret
GC = Gone Completely
Canterbury & Whitstable = Crab and Winkle
OW&WR = Old Worse and Worse
S&DJR = Slow, Dirty and Jolly Rotten (the company retaliated with Swift and Delightful)
LB&SCR = Long, Boring and Slow Coach Railway or Loud Buzzes and Sparkling Crackles (pioneer of main-line electrification) - earlier was Liver and Bacon (partly because of the livery)

And one for Southeastern = Seems Eternity

Not a TOC, but one I've always liked is that for the RCTS (Railway Correspondence & Travel Society) - Royal Corps of Train Spotters.
