I'm surprised too as it's been subject to antisocial behaviour before, it would need staffing though to keep an eye on undesirables.
Been on the 36 on the full route before, and very early in the morning - was losing the will to live after an hour.
Think the 36 had a night service years ago.
Do they still avoid Kenyon way after a certain time? I cant see anything on the timetable.

Stagecoach Midlands' U1 service runs for about 21 hours a day between Warwick University and Leamington Spa. 12 years later I'm still traumatised by the time I was travelling home on the last U1 of the night after a very late study session the day before a deadline, and being thrown up on by somebody who'd just come out of the student union!

Possibly you and other posters on the subject remember the pre-dereg 28/9 Manchester - Bolton night services? The 28 ran via Walkden and Little Hulton, the 29 followed via the 8's direct route through Farnworth. Except - they each left Irlams o' th' Height on the 'wrong' road, so the 28 ran through Pendlebury before Swinton, the 29 the opposite. A bit complicated, but it did mean both Swinton and Pendlebury got two buses per hour rather than just the 'natural' one.

York now has a 24-hour service on the U1/UN1 between the university and the city centre (at least during term-time, it may not run overnight in the holidays), with at least an hourly service right through.

Between 0000 and 0330, the night service (which runs a slightly different route to the daytime services and so has a different number) runs every hour on Monday night / every 30 minutes on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday / every 20 minutes on Wednesday and Friday.

Unfortunately i'm far too young to remember any night routes before d, reg.

Speaking of fares, night routes had there own special fares which were often higher than daytime fares, passes were often not valid & child fares not issued night routes, is there any areas that still persist on having special fares on night routes?

Newcastle alongside the 21 (which serves Durham) and the N56 (to Sunderland) also has Stagecoach 787
Probably can be classed as a night bus. It's a BSIP service which operates from Newcastle City Centre to the Airport but it only operates from 4 journeys M- F 2am to 4.40am and 3 Journeys on a Saturday

In Leeds, from the end of October, the 1/N1 will become the 24 and will close the 3 hour gap seen most nights (6 hours on a Sunday night), running at least hourly 24/7. Overnight the part of the route south of Leeds still won't run - it will run Leeds - Lawnswood (not quite to Holt Park which it will extend to during the day).

Oh wow that's great news! Does that include Sunday nights too?

Kinchbus and Trentbarton decided not to issue £2 tickets overnight, effective from a few months ago.

It does, being hourly at worst on the overnight section of route. Oddly Sunday daytime the route runs roughly 20/40 North of Leeds, every 20 minutes South - I'm assuming there's another route fits in that gap nicely.

The Sunday overnight is the best bit for me. It's a 40 minute walk home from Leeds which isn't too bad, but a bus is a lot better.

It's also insurance for the rare times the 23:33 out of Kings Cross doesn't run early enough to get me on the 02:30 N1.

Edinburgh has a different (higher) fare structure for their night routes.

Funnily enough Stagecoach East Scotland is actually cheaper after 6pm(until 4:30 the next day), with the purchase of £3.50 ‘night rider’ tickets available for travel across Perthshire, Angus, Dundee and Fife. Only one 24h route though and that’s the 99 on Friday/Saturdays.

I grew up in Bristol, where night buses were unknown in the 1960s and when I arrived in Sheffield as a student they were a novelty, not that I used them very often. Now the situation is reversed, with Bristol coming in at no. 4 on the OP's list and Sheffield nowhere to be seen, despite the huge increase in the number of students.

Exeter now has an all-night bus serving the University on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights in term time, operated with financial support from the University.
