Operator Fyra in financial difficulties

HSA, the company responsible for operating the Fyra service on the Dutch high speed line, is suffering from financial difficult. Minister Schultz has written the Chamber that this is due to low income due to the number of passengers on the Amsterdam - Rotterdam line staying way behind on estimations.

To attract more passengers, the price of the Fyra supplement will be temporarily lowered starting tomorrow with a 66% price cut (was 6.00 euro now 2.10 Euro)

Dutch Railways NS, which holds 90 percent shares of HSA, has denied to issue a statement.

Tomorrow ms. Schultz will have a talk with the Dutch House of Representatives about HSA's problems. The VVD (tories) feels that Dutch Railways should surrender the franchise.

TBH I'm not surprised - how late are their high speed units now?

A the moment you are paying a premium for a 100mph TRAXX rather then the promised 140mph

Further Proof that you don't buy from Ansaldo Breda

It's not as bad as the IC4 in Denmark - 7 years late and still not in full service!

And we are happy to let them supply all our signalling systems too?

I was living in holland when this was completed, for about 2 years, they had similar 'administrative' issues when commissioning an extra lane on a motorway which meant that it was closed for about 2 years aswell. The dutch, i find, like to take ages to do everything, makes each person in the chain feel that little bit of self_importance.

I am not surprised by this at all, dutch procrastination :)

Informed sources in the company (which will be my employer from March) suggested the following:

- Summer 2011, introduction of first V250 stock on Amsterdam-Breda in Traxx timetable (160 km'h)
- Autumn 2011, up to four V250 train sets in the Amsterdam-Breda service at 160 km'h.
- TT change, all available V250 stock on Amsterdam-Brussels at 250 km'h and Amsterdam - Breda back to Traxx operation.
- Summer 2012, all services operated by V250 at 250 km'h

The half hourly TRAXX service to Breda is timetabled to start from 4 April.

So there will then be a 15 minute service between Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Even though it is running at 160 km/h, it is still worth getting as there is a journey time saving due to the shorter distance avoiding Den Haag.

The Dutch are notoriously tight, so good luck getting an extra 2 Euros out of them.

2nd class on Fyra is cheaper than 1st class on the regular train so passengers fed up of standing on the regular train who were contemplating 1st class to get a seat might be attracted.
