RAIB have yet to release their report into the Bulwell Derailment which caused a lot of speculation into what caused it, especially on this forum.

It was 6 months yesterday as to when this happened- is it normal for the investigations to take this long?

That’s normal. It can take well over a year for a report to be released.

The Salisbury crash for example, that occurred on 31st October 2021 and the report wasn’t released until 24th October 2023.

I think over 6 months is perfectly normal, sometimes you can wait a year or two. Sometimes there are interim reports.

Are you already sure there’s an investigation going on?

Reports at the time of the incident indicated that there would indeed be an RAIB report.

In short, yes.

Most full RAIB reports will take around 9+ months with some taking significantly longer, it all depends on the complexity and other agencies involved. There may be interim reports, especially if it's something safety related that the operator could immediately act upon to help ensure no repeats.
