This was never actually constructed, but did appear upon certain items of line usage. Does anyone know the reason why the construction was not proceeded with ? It appears to have been proposed to leave the line at Beverley and serve six settlements with the terminus planned to be in North Frodingham.

Money: after the North Eastern Railway adoption of the scheme in 1898 a start was made on rolling stock design but little else happened until 1901 when the General Manager reported a rise in the quoted cost of construction from £32 808 to £74 000 which was judged too high to be economic in view of the expected traffic levels. Moves were then made to annul the Act of Parliament allowing the North Eastern's takeover and to sell off the land already acquired for the building of the line; the N.E. then operated both passenger and goods road motor services instead.

The reason for the appearance of the line on maps is that they were prepared after the take over of the North Holderness Company by the North Eastern but before the abandonment of the scheme.

I seem to recall reading that the NER did in fact operate a bus service between Beverley and North Frodingham.
EDIT As David Barrett mentioned. Sorry - missed it.

The bus service actually operated a further one and a half miles beyond North Frodingham to terminate at Beeford and although various additions were tried including short lived services to both Driffield and Hornsea the route's principal terminus was Beverley, but in 1916 the service was cut back from Beeford to Brandesburton. By 1925 the railway was losing money on the route and withdrew the service, local operator Newington Motor & Engineering taking over with a vastly improved frequency which was progressively reduced to levels well below that of the railway's provision after this operator was absorbed by the East Yorkshire Motor Services with, by 1939, just one return journey between Beverley and Brandesburton.

Featured in the current issue of North Eastern Express from NERA.
https://sites.google.com/site/northeasternrailwayassoc/
If you contact them they may provide a copy.

And a further few pages of information is to be found in "A History of the Hull and Scarborough Railway" published by said association.

I feel certain that at some time in the past an EM Gauge model was built and exhibited giving an impression of what the terminus may have looked like albeit with licence and some geographical meddling but I'm open to correction here if anybody knows better.
