Hi.
Well done on passing! I passed my assessment day around 5 weeks ago in Manchester. Since receiving the well done you passed email, I've heard nothing!
I've just e-mailed hr today for some more information, I've been trying to be patient, but seeing people are being allocated courses has me abit worried!
I wondered if anyone could give me HR's phone number, via PM is fine.
Thanks in advance.
I passed in Manchester mid July, applied for Manchester, they mentioned Blackburn on my 1st interview. I emailed HR on Monday enquiring about Blackburn. They rang me asking if I could make a medical today and I start 5 September.

Well done S Express, couldn't leave work that soon myself so having to wait for my course in October and medical in Sept! Wish I could do the medical tomorrow just to make it all official but c'est la vie!

Cin88, so sorry to hear that! Was it at the application form stage? I work for the police and applied for Lancs Constabulary last year and got sifted out, used the exact same one for Cheshire this year (notoriously picky constabulary) and got through. When my feedback arrived it was graded A overall! Paper sifts can be really odd at times, that one really annoyed me and I cancelled my assessment day because I wanted this more. Gutted for you but don't give up!!

Yeah it was the application stage. Which i've found to be incredibly annoying as earlier this year they gave me an interview for Manchester on the back of pretty much the same application form, same for a conductor interview I had a couple of months ago. I'll be back again at the next opportunity, i'm going to keep banging on the door until someone finally lets me in.

In the same boat, Maccalad. Applied 24/7, heard nothing. Evidently some sifting has taken place and I fear that there will be more. I believe that some interviews have taken place for this position already, from the applications submitted when we submitted ours.
I suspect that they will await the outcome of those interviews and the results of pending psychometric tests before calculating whether they need to interview more candidates.

After my last post, I decided to do just that - they advised me that some applications are still due to be shortlisted to the next stage, also I need to keep checking my Northern Rail profile.

So, to me, I'm still in there as they haven't said "no".

Had the email today confirming my pee was clear (as expected thankfully) and I'm fit for driving. Happy days. I'll see you there!!!

Sapper & S Express, got my medical on 6th Sept in York a bit of a strange question but how long does it last? Never been to York before so thinking of having a mooch around after.

I would allow around 80 minutes. 45 minutes with the nurse, then in to see the doctor when they're available.
It's a while since i have been to York, nice place, i had a quick look round but didn't have time to look round the Rail Museum unfortunately.

As Sapper said , I was there for 10 and left 1130 ish. I was in Leeds and had to get back to work ( to see my current boss about leaving within my notice period). York is well worth a visit though.

I wasn't made aware of any allowance for the medical gazcat. Think you need to get there under your own steam

I showed the guard my letter or email etc and they were fine, but I think if you contact HR they will send something out as I'm sure it's free

I don't think HR typically offer costs for travel; though I know they have done where they've required people to go to London at short notice for medicals as there are very few discount fares midweek.

After successful assessments Northern wanted me to start asap (5th Sept), which I unfortunately couldn't do due to a combination of notice period and personal circumstances.
I was then pencilled in for a course on 31st October pending medical in September.
But they wasn't sure whether they wanted me at Blackpool (as per my initial application) or Blackburn, which was mentioned in my interview.
I requested Blackburn if I had a choice, as it's slightly nearer to home.
I've just had confirmation I'm booked on that course and it's for Blackburn.
Still the medical to get through but really pleased it seems to be coming together.
Can't wait to get started now - been nearly 3 years since first applying!
Thanks again to everyone on this forum for advice and information - it's been invaluable.

Today I passed my assessments and the MMI, to say that I am happy would be a huge understatement. Thanks to this site and everyone that has contributed to it has made my journey a lot easier. Looking forward to the medical now and then a start date.

Well done to everyone starting soon :)

I'm still waiting. I haven't been sifted out. Nor have I been invited to interview. I'm unsure whether to remain positive. I would imagine that all 25 trainee positions must be filled now. There's a few candidates on this forum and more on other threads who have transferred their applications from Blackpool to Blackburn. I hope there is still some hope!

I'm in the same position as Willi............on my NR jobs page, it confirms that an application has been submitted, but there is nothing further - no invites, no email to say I've been unsuccessful.

I did email HR approx 10 days ago, and they have advised that the applications are due to be looked at, so I need to keep checking my NR jobs page for confirmation. However, we are well outside of the 2-4 week period from the closing date of the application (was 29/7/16).

I really don't know what to think, so I'll have to go with the fact I'm still in until I'm told I'm out.

I think it was around 6 weeks after application that I heard. The thing to remember us there's a large recruitment drive going on for numerous depots at the minute and only a limited number of training spaces per month. itmght is the there's sch a huge volume to go through its done in stages.

Unfortunately maccalad this whole process involves many agonising periods of waiting to hear something.
From the first sift following application like you are now, to hearing back from an interview, at each stage of the assessment, and even now I'm still nervous as I've got to wait for my medical, then contract - it'll probably only ease when I start the course and then I've got the course itself to worry about passing haha!
Point being that you haven't yet been told you're out and even if you got bad news there's nothing to stop you applying again straight away, as it's only a failed assessment you have to wait six months after (I think).
Fingers crossed for you though.
