Cheers Gazcat.

In fairness, I'm only fussing because of the notification received after the email - it stated that I'd hear in 2-4 weeks from applying.

This recruitment drive sounds huge - I knew there was an expansion, but it must be beyond what I thought.

Like I've said before - until notified that I've been unsuccessful, I'm still in.

Well done to the guys that have passed, and good luck to all that are waiting to hear.

Hi All,
I've been offered start date of 3rd October which I've accepted. Anyone had their contract through yet?

When did you all do your assessments and then medical? Did my assessments last week and still haven't heard anything from them.

I was told I passed the assessments and mmi on the day. I don't get why I'm having to wait again to find out about the medical and course date. Most other people seem to have found out the day after their assessments.

Assessment was 19th Aug , didn't find out on the day but a couple of days later then went on medical 24th Aug and offer a few days after that. I have an email confirmation of offer but need an actual contract!
Tbh for me the whole process has been really quick, almost rushed. Applied end June then interview, assessment and medical all in August.

I applied end of May for Blackpool then they moved me to Blackburn. Interview on the 4th August and assessments on the 31st August. Getting the feeling that I'm going to end up missing the boat and sat in the talent pool for months/years.

Waddins, same situation. I've had to give my notice in based on the confirmation email, however I think with pro rata'd leave I'll be due to finish very soon and could do with that contract just so everything's final. Hoping something will come in the next couple of days!
Senna, have you tried contacting anyone from hr for an update?

I'm same as you Bean, had to get my notice in last week to make my 28 days I have to give. Think I've used all my leave though so will be working right up to it!

Been for my medical today, passed it all just waiting on urine sample results. They have mentioned 3rd Oct course to me when arranging my medical. Will be pushing it with my notice but I'll give them what notice I can, been keeping my bosses updated throughout so it won't be a surprise to them.

Cheers Sennaf15, guess so although I'll be waiting by the phone and checking my email every 5mins beginning tomorrow for the results and formal offer.
Have you heard anything more yet?

I've heard something today - been invited to an interview at the beginning of October.

Time to start doing a bit more research.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Dave1980 - you mention you work for police...........a bit personal I know, but which force and where are you based?

Is the wage structure the same, or similar to signallers? Whereas you get the full wage, even while training? Or are trainee drivers on a lower rate?

Cheers

Asked this in another thread but this one seems more active.

I know money isn't everything, but I am interested in working for the train service, just looking at options currently.

Tryles87.
"The train service" is called the railway! Just as those of us who work on it are called railwaymen and hopefully not "servicemen "

Tryles87 on the "railway" as a trainee driver you are on a lower rate whilst doing your training then it goes up each year until your 3rd year when you are fully qualified it hits the top wage of £44.5k
Maccalad I work for Lancs Police at Skelmersdale

What about the women? In the emergency services we now use firefighter, police officer ect.... so as not to differentiate between the genders. I assume the same is true on the railway?

Got a response this morning after the assessments last week. Confirmed I'd passed everything which I knew but also been told I'm on 'hold'. Could be in this position for weeks/months now.

You have done the hard bit, it can be like this ( trust me I know) , but the schools are maxed out, just sit tight till things start moving again, another group is due to leave school next week , and every 3-4 weeks after that, so it will start again

Well my journey hasn't been as long as some people's but I finally got the call today that my medical tests are clear and I'm fit for driving duties, quick call to HR and apparently I'm all green and booked in on the course starting 3rd October in Manchester and contracts are going out next week.
Still some good candidates going through the process and it does play on your mind but stick with it and you'll get there, it is worth it in the end!
Guess the real work begins on 3rd October, be strange being a newbie after being in the Police for 9yrs in the same role. So any drivers or driver trainers out there I apologise in advance for any daft questions and being totally new!

Never a daft question on the railway

After the initial interview I seem to be 3-4 weeks behind everyone else, so fingers crossed for it. As it stands I'm ' an on hold candidate'
