Northern cancellations due to staff shortages

My son in law had interrupted journey today from Manchester Airport coming home on leave in Preston from Saudi Arabia. Firstly my daughter had to turn back on the M6 (at a junction, of course !!!) due heavy delays for roadworks and not being able to make it in time to pick him up. Due Ordsall Lane Chord work, necessary to catch bus from Airport to Bolton and then posted on Facebook he said he had to wait 40 minutes for the next train to Preston at a cold and dreary Bolton due to train cancelled.

On a different note there's quite a few formation changes today!

Quite a few to them relate to being a 323 down and a 4 car 150 being shortened to a 2 car 150 to free up a DMU to run the Alderley Edge services.

Due to roadworks there's a revised timetable in operation which takes 3 hours to get from Sandbach to Preston.

Been like that for months now with the 14 mile roadwork section, and in both directions.
